"...I'm going Home..."

"...back to the place where I belong."
There is no place that I would rather be on the 4th of July than in Manti, Utah. I love going home to all of the joys of a small town celebration. Watching my sister ride on the Miss Manti float and wave to Aubrey and William, and my parents as they proudly hold Brooke and show her off to the town.

Then, waking early to go to the American Legion Pancake breakfast with my family. The crisp early morning that smells of pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Savoring the breakfast at the park, all while enjoying the antics of the familiar city clown. What a great morning. And, it has only just begun.

The festivities continue throughout the day with games for everyone: the greased pole, races, the dunk tank, money in the hay, and Aubrey's favorite, the egg toss.

The whole day spent beneath the shade of a tree, spread out on a blanket, talking to old friends and listening to the local musical talents.

Still, there was more to come. The fireworks!!! Watching as they exploded into the sky, my mom commented,"Where else can you watch fireworks with the temple in the background." The answer...no where. That's what makes Manti such a wonderful place.

And the part that really struck me was the feeling of patriotism that prevailed this year. Recently the 145th Field Artillery Unit was deployed taking 60 people from our community. That may not seem like a lot, but in a town of 3,000 it really hits people. Watching the young mothers with their children, their husbands far away, really brought out the patriotism in everyone.

I'm so grateful to be part of such a great community...because no matter where you live, and how long ago you left, you are always a part of this town and everyone knows it. You are welcomed back will hugs and smiles. What a wonderful way to spend Independence Day. Happy 4th of July!!!
