"PLEASE clean up your room"
"I am NOT your maid....turn OFF the TV and help me!"
It finally got to the point that I couldn't take it any more. The kids would watch TV ALL the time, and they wouldn't pick up after themselves. So, we decided to instigate the TV Token Program.
Every day the kids get to earn TV Tokens. Each token is worth 15 minutes of TV time or computer time. That way, if they want to watch a favorite show....say Backyardigans....they need to earn 2 tokens.
Now, there are various ways to do this. If they get up and get dressed in the morning, they can immediately earn 1 token. Then when they make their beds, they get another token....and so on. Each kid has a list of chores that they need to do to earn tokens....plus I have another list of additional chores that they can do when their personal list is done. Once the kids have the tokens, they can put them in an envelope that is taped to the side of the TV. William's comment was, "This is just like Chuck E. Cheese!"
We have been doing this for about 2 weeks, and I have to admit that some days have been better than others. The first day they were excited and cleaning everything. That quickly went away, but they soon learned that if they didn't have tokens, they didn't watch TV. About three days into it, I told the kids that if they cleaned something, then I would give them TV tokens. Aubrey's reply was, "I don't really want to watch TV, Mom." And I was OK with that!
So, I have decided to post a picture of our TV tokens. If I can stick to this, I think it will be great!
The TV Tokens....the hearts are for Aubrey and the Lightning Bolts are for William (he's a huge Cars fan)

As part of their chores, the kids have to do a Kitchen chore every day. I made this little wheel and each person does the chore that their name points to. It changes every day so they won't get bored.

Here's the wheel in action on the fridge. Notice the Mom arrow......now look at the next picture
I have had three different people ask me who "WOW" is. I just say, "I am Wow...also known as Mom."
